Reading Family Mediation
We are a group of experienced family lawyers and a former children's guardian. We bring together expertise to help you with complex financial and child-related matters. Our combined legal knowledge and skilled expertise can guide you and your partner towards a fair and workable outcome. As like-minded practitioners, we formed Reading Family Mediation to promote good mediation practice in the local area and to provide you with an expert service when choosing mediation.

We regularly work with other professionals such as accountants, surveyors and actuaries whose services can also be called upon should it become necessary to obtain expert input within the mediation process.
Services
Our group comprises a number of experienced family lawyers and a former children's guardian who bring together expertise in complex financial and child-related matters.
We have the necessary legal knowledge and expertise to guide couples towards fair and workable outcomes.
Our non-legally qualified mediator is able to add invaluable assistance to parents who are struggling to agree on arrangements for their children as well as helping with the emotional issues that can all too often lead to a breakdown in constructive communication.
In practical terms this means (subject to a very few exceptions) that before an application is made to the Court to consider financial or children issues, individuals are required to consider mediation.
This is done by meeting with a mediator for a MIAM, where you can explore whether or not the issues in dispute are capable of settlement outside the court process.
We are able to offer Mediation and Information Assessment Meetings (MIAMs) at a time and place which is suitable for you.
The meeting will take place with you each separately and usually lasts up to 45 minutes.
In addition, MIAMs can take place at a more informal venue close to your home or place of work within the Thames Valley.
We offer Mediation Information Assessment Meetings (MIAMs).
This usually takes the form of one mediation meeting (individually or jointly) where you will discuss the benefits of mediation.
An additional charge is made for preparation of interim or final documents.
This is based on the same hourly rate of 260 + VAT and you will be given an estimate of the likely overall cost before the documents are prepared.
We are not able to offer legal aid.
If you think you might qualify for legal aid for mediation there may be a branch of the National Family Mediation service near to where you live who you can contact about this.
Although most of our mediators are also qualified family lawyers, they cannot give legal advice in their role as a mediator, which is an impartial role.
You will be given information about the powers of the court and possible orders, but are encouraged to seek independent legal advice alongside the mediation process.
