Services
At Standley & Co, we know that when it comes to family law, you need to have the support during what can be a very stressful time.
We will listen to you, and ensure that we make matters as easy as possible for you by coming to a reasonable and fair solution.
When a couple separate it is crucial for someone who is not emotionally involved in your situation to step back and think pragmatically about your long term future.
Our clients trust us to fulfil this role for them.
Our expert team will be sensitive to your needs and are aware that emotions often run high, especially where children are involved.
Whether you are thinking about separation following the breakdown of a long term relationship, or you need any advice regarding divorce, dissolution of a civil partnership, finance or children, we are here to help.
Our family team offers a dedicated one to one caring, sympathetic and confidential service.
We have many years' experience in dealing with the legalities of relationship breakdown.
This includes preparing the documentation to obtain a divorce or partnership dissolution, and managing the legal process through the courts from then on.
Apportioning the matrimonial assets after a marriage breakdown can be one of the most stressful and worrying aspects of the divorce.
You will be worried about whether the matrimonial home will need to be sold, possibly where and how will any children be housed and what will happen to the joint/individual assets and any businesses you are both involved in.
We have an experienced team that can take that worry from you and deal with the property and asset division.
The advice we give is pragmatic and more importantly, realistic.
When couples separate, disputes may arise as to where a child lives, the time they spend with the other parent, or specific matters such as a wish to take the child out of the country either for the purposes of a holiday or permanently to reside abroad, or there may be questions surrounding Parental Responsibility.
When agreement can be reached, we can advise and assist with negotiations.
Many couples find mediation helps an agreement to be reached upon an amicable basis.
However, in the circumstances where it is not possible to reach agreement, we can also make the appropriate application to the Family Court so that the Court can deal with the matter.
Couples who live together and are not married, may wish to have a 'living together agreement' in place.
This sets out clearly the terms of ownership of assets, including those assets owned by each party before they live together.
This ensures that, if the relationship then breaks down, there can be no argument relating to ownership of assets.
We can put together these agreements, as well as pre-nuptual agreements for couples before they get married.
If a relationship breaks down, without one of these agreements in place, we can also help to resolve issues around asset ownership, either in or out of the courts.
