Helen Starkie Solicitor
We will continue to restrict all non-urgent face to face contact with our clients, including home visits, we will gladly talk with you on the phone or via video conference call. Gina started working in the legal world at the age of 16 when she left school. Since then she has worked in many areas of law but over the years developed a particular passion for working with the elderly.

Helen has been a 'Private Client' solicitor for over thirty years, and is an elected member of both the Law Society's Private Client National Executive Committee, and Solicitors for the Elderly. She is passionate about helping the people of Bath, Bristol, Frome and Warminster. Many thanks for your great assistance in this matter. Your professionalism and friendship were very much appreciated by both X (his partner) and myself.

Thank you so much for your patience and good humour and devoted hard work - and especially for your kindness to T (the executrix). I know how much it meant to her to have you at the helm understanding all the sensitive negotiations she had to do.
Services
Helen Starkie set up her own practice in Bath in 2010, having spent many years in a leading role in a Top One Hundred law firm.
Whilst valuing her experience there, in latter years she also became frustrated by the increasing amount of time it became necessary to spend on 'in house' matters and the value larger firms now place on 'commercial' rather than personal service.
She wanted to get back to basics delivering an old fashioned personal and entirely bespoke service to clients.
Helen believes that in law a truly personal service has become rarer and sees an analogy between her own field and what has happened in banking.
The firm offers specialist advice and expertise in a number of areas affecting the individual, with particular emphasis on those primarily associated with the older and/or vulnerable client.
Protecting the family home and other assets against depletion in the event of long-term care needs arising.
Making and registering Lasting Powers of Attorney in respect of both Property and Affairs and Health and Welfare.
Probate and the administration of estates including advice on legitimate ways to reduce Inheritance Tax liability both at the time of the administration of the estate and on the later deaths of its beneficiaries.
Our base fees for conveyancing services are stated below, this is for standard transactions without a mortgage and assumes no unusual complexities.
Redeeming your mortgage (if appropriate), settling your estate agents' commission account (if appropriate).
Transferring funds by telegraphic transfer to the seller's solicitors and for relevant taxes;.
Calculating stamp duty land tax (SDLT) on the purchase and preparing and submitting to HM Revenue & Customs the appropriate SDLT forms; and.
We will not be carrying out any enquires into the past use of the property and will assume that you will be using it for residential purposes.
Like Wills, this is a topic where people often need encouragement to 'grasp the nettle'.
It is painful for us to imagine ever being in a situation where we will not have complete control of our own affairs; but the brutal reality is that disaster can strike any of us at any time.
Anyone of any age can have an accident.
Many of us will suffer an unexpected stroke or heart attack - and as we live longer an increasing number of us will succumb to dementia.
There are currently approaching one million sufferers of dementia in this country and the number is rising fast.
One of the most important areas of personal law that we handle sensitively but practically for you and your family is the drawing up of wills and assisting with the legal responsibilities surrounding the death of a loved one.
Our highly experienced, approachable solicitors are available in Bath, Bristol and the surrounding area to ensure your wishes are carried out after you die, or to assist you in dealing with winding up the estate of a deceased family member, whether he or she has died with or without a will in place.
